Can you vote

Elections: How to Vote?

Everyone who has an EU passport, or has been living in The Netherlands legally for over five consecutive years, has the right to vote for the Wageningen municipal elections. To vote, you only have to be registered as a resident in the city.

We made a tool to quickly check whether you are eligible to vote in the Wageningen municipal elections on March 16th, 2022.

WHEN ARE THE NEXT ELECTIONS?

The next municipality elections are on Wednesday the 16th of March 2022. On this day, citizens get to decide what kind of city they want to live in. Do you want to live in a city where everyone feels welcome, where climate change is addressed locally and with affordable housing for everyone? If the answer is YES, then vote for the only green, left-wing and progressive party in Wageningen: GroenLinks!

Due to COVID-19, it has been decided that early voting will be possible this year. This means that for those who would feel more safe to vote at a quieter time, it is possible to cast their vote early on the 14th and 15th of March.

AM I ELIGIBLE TO VOTE?

Most non-Dutch residents who are of age (18 or over) are allowed to vote for a new local council.

Do you have an EU passport? Then you can immediately upon moving to the area vote in the municipality elections as soon as you are registered as a citizen of Wageningen. So do not forget to register here before January 31st!

Are you a Non-EU citizen? Then you are eligible to vote if you have been living in the Netherlands for at least 5 years (with a residence permit) and when you are registered as a citizen of Wageningen. You can register yourself here, before January 31st!

HOW CAN I VOTE?

At least 14 days before the election, all eligible voters automatically receive a personal voting card in the mail. Take this card and a valid proof of ID to any polling station within the Wageningen area on the day of the election in order to vote.

The card confirms to the polling station staff that you have not already voted at other polling station, as it has authenticity features and a unique identifying number. A passport or driver’s license counts as valid proof of ID and may be expired for up to 5 years.

WHERE CAN I VOTE?

Your voting card contains the address of the polling station closest to where you live. However, you may also vote at another polling station of your choice within the municipality

DO I NEED TO REGISTER TO VOTE?

To be allowed to vote, you need to be registered as a citizen of Wageningen. If you are registered as a citizen of Wageningen before January 31st, and if you meet the above stated requirements, you will automatically receive your voting bill.
